10111 service in shambles says Auditor General

Auditor general Terence Nombembe recently gave the South African Police Services an unqualified audit for the 2011/2012 financial year for many reasons including the fact that nearly 60 percent of crimes reported on the 10111 hotline do not get properly registered resulting in them not getting investigated. We spoke to acting chair of the Police oversight committee Annelize van Wyk regarding these findings. Van Wyk promised that the committee would seek answers from SAPS and a structured plan of rectifying these challenges.
