Bus driver with a talent for writing

We opened the show with Erfaan Dramat he is a bus driver that has the special talent of writing. Some of you might recognize Erfaan if you traveling from Strandfontein to Cape Town (and back) with a double decker bus.

Two years ago he started publishing his work in their company newspaper called the Gazette. He now writes for the Big Issue. In his columns he writes about incidents which he sees whilst doing his job.

His future plans is to do a writing course (something which is not possible now due to financial constraints), complete his novel that is based on an informal settlement located next to their bus depot in Philippi.

He would also like to have a laptop in order to type the rest of his novel, “…at the moment I’m writing in a book, I’m aiming for 70 000 words, right now I’m on 8000. So it’s difficult when I want to change something to the novel, I have to rewrite everything...”

Disabled People of South Africa

Monday (3 December 2007), it was International Day for Disabled Persons; hence we were then joined by Gillian Burrows, Provincial Development Coordinator at Disabled People South Africa.

She spoke about the challenges faced by the disabled and also about the International Day for Disabled Persons.

One of the constant challenges that the disabled face is mobility, being able to move around; whether it be access to an elevator (lift) in a building or being able to use public transport.

Unknown robbers enter Ravensmead Crèche

We ended off the show with Ethol Petersen, the principal of the Ravensmead Crèche. On Monday four unknown men entered the premises without them knowing and one was hiding in the fridge.

All this happened after 12 in the afternoon whilst the children were still in the building.

One of the people at the crèche was strangled by one of the robbers. The four men have been caught by police and will be appear in court soon.
