Lwandle Migrant Labour Museum

In today’s show we spoke to Lunga Smile from Lwandle Migrant Labour Museum. They are the first township based museum in the Western Cape and the first museum to commemorate migrancy in South Africa. In 1995 Lwandle was incorporated into the Helderberg Council. It is now a vibrant community of families. For more information you can call Lunga Smile on 021 845 6119.

We also spoke to Ncedisa Paul from Philani Child Health and Nutrition Project. This is a community-based non-governmental organization (NGO), operating in the informal settlements of Khayelitsha, Crossroads, Brown's Farm, Mfuleni, Nyanga and Delft. For details you can call Ncedisa Paul on 021 387 5124.

We then spoke to Nombulelo Baba from National Library of South Africa. The subject was the World Book and Copyright Day. This day was established internationally by UNESCO at its General Conference in 1995.The habit of celebrating books and reading on the 23rd of April each year is, however, an ancient one. In the English-speaking world the date has also been linked with William Shakespeare’s date of his death April 23 1616.
