Porcupine

We opened the show with author of the book Porcupine- Jane Bennett. The book is a collection of twelve short stories exploring maverick, impossible, and unbelievable moments in South Africa and elsewhere. The stories explore sexual violence and sexual desire, dreams of Nelson Mandela, and the lives of beggars. They are unpredictable, both in style and approach, and will appeal to those with a penchant for the experimental.

A bit of background on the author… Bennett has worked as an activist, feminist, writer, and teacher. Her home is in Kalk Bay, Cape Town. She has written extensively as an academic. This is her first publication as a fiction writer.

The book launch will take place at The Book Lounge on 6 May 2008
