Mkhanyiseli Primary School

We ended off today’s show with the principal of Mkhanyiseli Primary School- Khosi Mbane. Earlier today the school received lap desks. Mbane spoke to us about how these desks will make a difference to the children. “Currently learners are writing on soft surfaces such as the ground or whatever is available. In a classroom environment having proper facilities allows for both the teacher and learner to concentrate on what is important, which is learning,” says Mbane.

In a move that seeks to alleviate the plight of needy school children, Old Mutual (SA) Retail Mass Market division is providing 60 000 lapdesks worth R3 million to 74 schools in all nine provinces. The savings and investments champion’s participation in the Lapdesk Challenge is part of a critical public-private partnership to provide portable desks to learners.

The lapdesk is a fibre-glass board; it comes with a school name board and a diary. The portable desks can be used at school and at home.
