Habitat for humanity has been around since 1976 and has been changing peoples lives ever since. When they speak about improving peoples lives they speak about a holistic process, wehre they work with the community, families governments, private citizens and corporations.

What they do is facilitate election of a body of community leaders, through leadership and skills development, the leaders are equipped to lead their communities.

Changing things together

Our approach is about participation. We want the community to take ownership of their own project.

Their way of helping the community is having a plan by creating surveys and conducting interviews collecting information on the skills, resources and current livelihoods in the community. This helps the leaders craft a plan for the development they want to see in their communities.

Who are we?

We are collaboration. We are communities. We are Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organisation breaking the cycle of poverty in South Africa through participatory development, advocacy and awareness.

Only founded in 1996 in South Africa, but still a part of Habitat for Humanity International. The organisation is entirely self-funded, they believe that providing adequate and affordable shelter is the best way to fight poverty. Habitat for Humanity South Africa are strong voices on housing development and community participation in South Africa.
