Mashisa Mguni Radebe; In Celebration of the new release "VUKA"

Mashisa Mnguni Radebe, popularly known as FAYA, is a young artist from Pongola in northern KwaZulu-Natal. He has composed several songs, including his single “Shukuma,” and recently released his latest song, “Vuka.” FAYA has been involved in the music industry for more than two decades and has collaborated with various artists throughout his musical journey.

On 11 August 2026, FAYA was invited to Bush Radio’s BackChat show, where he was interviewed by Thomas Cedrick and Khanyiswa Mdladlamba. He joined the show to share his journey in the music industry with listeners, with the main focus being his recently released single, “Vuka.”

During the interview, FAYA opened up about some of the challenges he has faced throughout his musical career. He explained that although he has been making music for many years, there were times when he felt as though he was not progressing or receiving the recognition he deserved. However, he believes that his recent releases, including Vuka, could mark a breakthrough in his career, as he has started receiving more recognition for his work.

When asked about the meaning and significance of Vuka, FAYA explained that the song is centred around resilience and perseverance. It encourages people to rise again whenever they fall and to keep trying despite the difficulties they may face.

He shared a powerful message:“Life does not owe us anything, so you have to wake up and try again. Even if you fall 99 times, wake up the 100th time and try again.”

FAYA also spoke about his upbringing in Pongola and how his hometown has influenced his music. He explained that he was raised with the utmost respect, and that this upbringing can be heard in his music through his lyrics, sound and overall approach to his craft.

His music blends different genres, including soul, jazz and gospel, among others. When asked how he would describe his musical style, FAYA explained that his main purpose is healing. He wants his music to accommodate and connect with everyone who takes the time to listen.

He described Vuka as a spiritual song that offers comfort and encouragement. The song also speaks to Black people who have worked hard to get where they are and reminds them not to give up after coming so far. Its message is simple but powerful: you have come too far to give up now.

The song has also been receiving a positive response across FAYA’s social media platforms, with his audience showing their appreciation for the new release.

FAYA’s journey is a reminder that success does not always happen overnight. Sometimes, it takes years of persistence, patience and dedication before an artist begins to see the results of their hard work.

As part of his message of encouragement, FAYA urged people to keep fighting for a better future. He said:

“Let’s wake our people, and also ourselves, we should wake up. Our forefathers already fought so much for us to be here. Let’s continue the fight.”

For FAYA, Vuka is more than just a song. It is a message of hope, resilience, healing and the importance of getting back up, no matter how many times life knocks you down.
