DJ Cyclops A Deep House Journey Built on Passion and Purpose

For nearly two decades, DJ Cyclops has been carving out his own space in South Africa’s Deep House scene. Since starting his musical journey in 2005, the DJ, producer and music entrepreneur has remained committed to authentic sounds, meaningful collaborations and the power of music to bring people together.

His journey began during his high school years, when he found himself DJing at his own matric dance instead of simply celebrating as a guest. Playing house music from the reception until the early hours of the morning, he realized that music was more than a hobby it was his calling.

Inspired by jazz, R&B, soul and house music, DJ Cyclops developed a distinctive sound shaped by the music he grew up listening to. His career took a major step forward in 2007 when his production caught the attention of DJ Bongs through Pilani Kuli. The opportunity allowed his music to reach a much wider audience and gave him the confidence to pursue his career even further.

One of his notable projects is the Groove Laboratory 3 double-CD release in 2021. The project reflected his creative approach to Deep House, featuring both vocal and instrumental versions of his music. For DJ Cyclops, the instrumental is just as important as the vocal version because music can communicate emotions and connect people beyond language.

The music industry, however, has changed significantly since he started. Streaming has largely replaced music sales, making it more difficult for independent artists to generate sustainable income from their recordings. Live performances and bookings have therefore become increasingly important.

The COVID-19 lockdown also presented major challenges, particularly for artists who depended on live events to promote their music. DJ Cyclops believes the South African music industry is still recovering and encourages greater support for local artists and musicians.

His creative journey also includes collaborations with singer-songwriter and producer Trilogóane, whose musical background includes vocals, songwriting and guitar. Their shared passion for melody, harmony and Deep House has resulted in a growing body of collaborative work.

Looking ahead, DJ Cyclops remains focused on creating music, collaborating with other artists and continuing to grow his presence across digital platforms. His message to music lovers is simple: support local artists, listen to their music, attend their shows and engage with their work.

After almost 20 years in the industry, DJ Cyclops continues to prove that passion, consistency and a genuine love for music can keep an artist moving forward.
