Marikana: A view from the mountain and a case to answer to be launched tonight
*Marikana: a view from the mountain and a case to case to answer*, is a book by Peter Alexander, Thapelo Lekgowa, Botsang Mmope, Luke Sinwell and Bongani Xeswi. This is the first book on the massacre. Its core is a series of interviews with the event's victims. Many of these were conducted on the side of the 'mountain' where 34 of their comrades had been massacred by the police. There is also a narrative that links preceding events, thus making sense of the atrocity from the workers' perspective; an analysis that focuses attention on the 'triangle of torment': the police, the employer and the union; and a conclusion that highlights the courage of the Marikana miners, and the significance of their determination for the future of South African labour relations and politics. In the studio was Peter Alexander telling about the launch tonight at the Book Lounge. The book is now available at good book stores.
