Project Masiluleke

We has an interview with Zintle. Zintle Thabethe, an HIV positive woman, is at the forefront of Project Masiluleke – a campaign that will spearhead the fight against HIV/AIDS and TB through the use of mobile phones. A million SMS’s will be sent around South Africa each day, the aim of the project is to engage the public on a personal level instead of relying only on billboards.

The AIDS messages are sent as part of “Please Call Me” messages and address AIDS related matters that are of a personal nature such as:“Are you HIV positive and scared to tell your partner or HIV positive and being mistreated by your family and friends?

For confidential counseling call the AIDS helpline. Zintle describes the project as “An individualistic approach to dealing with the stigma around HIV/AIDS which allows people to respond at a time that is most convenient to them”
