Big Brother Big Sister South Africa

Today we opened the show with Nazrana Parker, Programme coordinator at the Big Brothers Big Sisters South Africa Programme. BBBSSA is a Mentorship programme for youth between the ages of six and 18 who are in need of various kinds of support.

‘After being matched, a mentor (a ‘Big) and a mentee (a Little) build a trusting friendship. A youth in need could be a child who is struggling academically, battling with low self-esteem, abused, neglected, or infected or affected by HIV/Aids’

Over a period of 12 months, a ‘Big’ is expected to spend a minimum of one hour a week developing a one-on-one relationship with the programme.

City introduces new Water Demand Management System to residents

We were later joined by Julian Daniels, Manager at Water Demand Management Scheme at the City of Cape Town.

The City of Cape Town has launched a water demand management scheme as a pilot project, which will bring to an end the trickle system, and residents who save water will have their arrears written off.

The City says that this system will help customers to save water and to manage their monthly water bills, and it will also help the City to manage debt.

The scheme consists of a water management device, which is installed in residents’ houses, and a central control team in the City administration that regulates the functioning of these devices with the help of a computer set up.
