Interview with Kenan Fortuin
KENJI PRODUCTIONS
Backchat was
joined by, Kenan Fortuin a 21 year old from Portlands Mitchell's Plain. Is the
founder and creative director of Kenji Productions CPT, a NPO based in
Mitchell's Plain. He is passionate about the local youth and giving them a
platform to display their skills and talents.
Kenji
Productions CPT was started in 2020 during the pandemic and the vision was to
provide a platform for all aspiring models and performers to best display their
skills and talents. They have been quiet for a bit but still had some
photoshoots and now are back with a whole new show.
Our
afternoon presenter Renato, started off the interview by asking more about what
Kenji productions is. Kenan shared with us that the goal was always youth
development by diving deeper into creativeness. Kenan shared that there is so
much talent where he comes from and he describes himself as a people person. He
also mentioned that he is all about giving creatives a platform. He says the
idea for Kenji came from watching trace at home. His initial idea was to start
doing music videos and models and from there it expanded into what it is today.
He says the
modelling element came from when schools used to throw fashion shows. “CLOTHES
SAYS A LOT ABOUT SOMEONE”, says Kenan. That is the power of fashion and also
how modelling and how the creative element came about.
Kenan said
that he has two successful shows so far and the upcoming show is inspired and
paying tribute to fashion icons but it also entails having performances and entertainment
in between. He also mentioned that the pressure is a lot because of the show
that is 3 weeks away.
In terms of casting for models, they do not have many requirements but they do focus mainly on the teen side of things. He urges anyone who would like to join or be involved to please come forward. Kenan mentioned that this show is a step forward and they look forward to much bigger things.
