RAPCAN welcomes Judge Rabie ruling on children and sex.

It is no longer a criminal offence for children aged between 12 and 16 to engage in consensual sexual activities with each other, the Pretoria High Court ruled on Tuesday. Last year, the Teddy Bear Clinic and Rapcan challenged the act in court, arguing that instead of protecting children, the effect of the law was to traumatise them by exposing them to the criminal justice system. The Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act has been widely condemned as absurd and unenforceable. We spoke Vivienne Mentor Lalu from Rapcan to tell us why they challenged the law.
