Youth Colloquium to Tackle Skills, Employment and Innovation

The Parliament of the Republic of South Africa will host a Youth Colloquium on Monday, 31 August 2026, bringing together young people, policymakers, researchers, civil society and government representatives to discuss challenges facing South Africa’s youth.

The event will focus on youth skills and employment, economic growth, innovation and inequality in education and opportunities.

According to Parliament’s Chief Researcher, Mr Boutilles, the colloquium aims to create a platform where stakeholders can share evidence, exchange ideas and develop practical solutions to youth unemployment and inequality.

The programme will also reflect on 50 years since the 1976 Soweto uprising, examining how the country’s economy, education system and skills requirements have changed over the past five decades.

Young people from high schools and universities are encouraged to participate. The event will be held from 9am to 5pm at the Dome near Parliament in Cape Town, with online participation also available.

The organisers hope the colloquium will become an annual platform for developing and following up on practical solutions to unemployment and other challenges affecting young people.

The event will also be streamed through Parliament’s digital platforms.
