The Back Chat
show was joined by, Malawian artist Major Star (Noel Mhango), formally known as Blacksta. He is
an Afro Dancehall musician, business owner and co-founder of Malinganya Empire.
He came to
Cape Town temporally to push his music on an international level, but he
decided to stay and start up his own business “Dreadlock City” in Claremont, which
is now expanding with another store opening up in Observatory, this is helping
Major Star support his music career.

When Covid-19
hit, it slowed down his business. Although, still doing house calls to support
his business, he felt he could do more; this gave him the opportunity to devote
more time to his music. During the national lockdown, he made his first song “Coronavirus”, which later followed up
with a music video; this would also be the first music video he has ever posted.
During the
time of Covid-19, focusing on his music, releasing song after song, Major Star’s
fan base started to grow, giving him a lot of exposure as well as his business “Dreadlock
City”, motivating him to keep the momentum going.
