Prince Benza drops a new hit
Prince Benza’s breakthrough into the music industry resulted in him quitting high school to pursue his one true passion.Born Benny Raolane in Wisani village, Limpopo, he grew a keen interest for music at the tender age of 9 in primary school when he produced his first song. Benza remembers the song being well-received by his peers in his village. For the first time he got the overwhelming urge to pursue his first love, music, instead of school.
Now 2021 Prince Benza came with a brand new single The smouldering slow jam is a declaration of a better tomorrow. He talks about how this year
will be a better one after the flops of the previous year.
The song is timely and timeous as people dust themselves from the devastation of Covid-19
and attempt to regain what they lost in the pandemic fire.
Prince Benza features his Open Mic Productions stable mate Makhadzi on Ngwago. The song
doesn’t stray from the quintessential Bolobedu house style, even when slowed down. It has
the elements of soul, a lively beat and sincere vocals that make it resonate with a large and
varied audience.
If there's one song you need to hear to set the tone and get you going in 2021 it's Ngwago. It
speaks to the indomitable and resilient human spirit. It’s about the audacity of hope and the
determination to give it yet another go despite past disappointments, hurts and loss.
Prince Benza is pensive as he reflects on Ngwago: ‘This song goes out to all people with
unfulfilled dreams and missed opportunities. The message is that this is a new year, and it
represents a new beginning. We all have to remain optimistic and hopeful that things will go
our way.’
In a way, with Ngwago, Prince Benza shares his own story about the challenges he faced on
the way to reaching the heights of music success. He is not an overnight success. He has been
hard at work crafting his path and now sits comfortably on the brink of a promising music
career that can take him to international audiences.
Prince Benza was born Benny Raolane in Wisani village in Limpopo province. He started
singing at a young age in 2008 while in primary school. King Monada influenced his
development as a singer, songwriter and producer.
Confident to venture out on his own, Prince Benza started making his own music in 2010.
And so began a journey that would bring his unique style to the fore. He wanted to be
different without losing the essence of the Bolobedu house sound as it represented where he
came from.
His first single A Hi Famba took fans by storm and won Monada over who groomed and
gave him direction. They collaborated on Dinyaka which opened more doors for Prince
Benza when he signed with Open Mic Productions, one of the biggest music companies in
South Africa. He released Chiwana, a song about someone who lost both his parents at a
young age and faces challenges with no help, but keeps on going with faith hoping that one
day all will be well and God will answer his prayers.
Music awards started noticing this young talent when he was a nominated in the Sepedi
Music Awards. The industry opened up its arms and Prince Benza made music with top
drawer artists such as Master KG, Makhadzi, Master Chuza, Team Mosha and Candy
Tsamandebele.
Ngwago is a precursor to the release of an album that he says will represent where he comes
from and where he’s going with music. Shares Prince Benza: ‘This album will also show my
growth as an artist since the days of A Hi Famba. It will show my versatility and creativity.
I’m enjoying the process. For now Ngwago is doing well and I’m thankful that it has been
embraced and loved by all.’
