welcomed back Afro Beat artist and entrepreneur, Major Star. Bush Radio
Presenter Thomas Cedrick sat down with the Malawian “major star” to find out
what he has been up to over the past year. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;">By Reece Adams<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;"><br /></span><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;">Since the
last time Major Star sat down for his first interview on Bush Radio, we dove
into who he is as an artist and entrepreneur. What we discovered was that Major
Star is on determined individual who has no chance of slowing down anytime
soon. Growing up in Malawi starting as a DJ for a short time, hosting events
for university students he discovered that his passion was definitely to be an
artist and make noise within the music industry. He moved to Cape Town to focus
on networking and focus more on his dream to become an icon in the Afro Beat
scene. <o:p></o:p></span></p><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pv4r8F6l12U" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;">To build
the foundation and gain the funds for his music career he started his own
business right here in the mother city called Dreadlock City located in Claremont.
His hair salon is definitely gaining a lot of, traffic and recognition with
many new and usual customers come and go. You will be surprised to know that Dreadlock
City is where all the well-known and local DJ’s go to get their dreadlocks
neatened and cleaned and if you are starting your dreadlock journey, Dreadlock
City is definitely the place to be. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC3Xx0i-U3OhTaVl7Rnaf43o7-mnhGMzZOYkHRsM12RdkEJBhSD6mBFqnjbrGAaGFwrbwHAbQM9EdCKFo_HiHXcJErjgguQOBmWY1Ez-XZDSf_oUiWit6pQWjBN-3-dImCgdMbyeUNhMYHg3moB-eXziN2yfGwg9pjJ2qbV9PDxoLcXSyZWBI/s1080/348465613_774061184101256_4522826355618080534_n.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="281" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC3Xx0i-U3OhTaVl7Rnaf43o7-mnhGMzZOYkHRsM12RdkEJBhSD6mBFqnjbrGAaGFwrbwHAbQM9EdCKFo_HiHXcJErjgguQOBmWY1Ez-XZDSf_oUiWit6pQWjBN-3-dImCgdMbyeUNhMYHg3moB-eXziN2yfGwg9pjJ2qbV9PDxoLcXSyZWBI/w330-h281/348465613_774061184101256_4522826355618080534_n.jpg" width="330" /></a></span></div><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;"><br /></span><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;">Post his
last visit to Bush Radio he released 3 songs, M’bebe, High Level featuring
Gento Bareto and Number Yako. Since the release of his debut song and music
video; Corona Virus, putting hours in the studio he has been releasing tracks back-to-back
making noise in the underground Afro Beat scene. During the interview with
Thomas Cedrick, Major Star mentioned that he is planning to add a variety of
genres to his sound such as House and Amapiano. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/inmInYgqiks" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;">There is
still more to come from the young Malawian artist as he sets to make his mark
in the music industry and become an inspiration to many. With hard work and dedication,
he shows that anything is possible if you set your mind to it and never settle
for your goal to be a dream. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p><p class="MsoNormal">Listen to the full interview with Major Star below.</p><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EzVnltbCkKk" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe>

Although a name that has been mentioned and heard of a number of times, the one and only QueenPin CPT continues to reach a broader audience and get things cooking in the mother city. Joined on Bush Radio Back Chat presented by Renato van Schalkwyk, we were able to get more insight of who the young artist is and what she has been up to in the music scene.</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><br /></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>By Reece Adams</i></span></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><span style="font-size: x-small;"><i><br /></i></span></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;">As QueenPin made her way into the studio, her energy she presented was unmatched, hyping herself up as she made her way to her seat while her track "Can't Relate" featuring YounstaCPT and Tam Carson was being played. During the interview she stated that, she is her own biggest fan and there is no greater statement than that. In 2017, something she thought was only a dream she started posting lyrics on Facebook, starting off from humble beginnings using the space that she had at the time, turning her cupboard into studio so she could record her songs, she made no excuses and never allowed her outcomes to stop her from turning her dreams into reality.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">We all know that the rap industry is predominately run by male rappers, when some of us are asked who's in our top ten, the usual names will come up for example YoungstaCPT, CREAM The Machine, Matt Levai, etc, the list goes on, but number of female rappers are very little. Although we have artists such as YOMA, Miss Celaneous, these artists are not being pushed as much as the male rappers. QueenPin aims to break the barrier and inspire young aspiring female artists that they can reach the heights within the industry despite their gender. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">QueenPin's biggest break was when she collaborated with Y?Gen pioneer, YoungstaCPT on the song Goodhope Joanna that ended up on Youngsta's album; Dream's Don't Pay Bills. There is no doubt that the Y?Gen captain was keeping his eye out for the next big artist and that of course was QueenPin. After going back and forth DM'ing each other for future collaborations, it came to fruition, the two artists would meet each other again on the track "Can't Relate" where she featured YoungstaCPT.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Inspiration comes easy to QueenPin as she stated in the interview that whatever comes to her mind she will put the pen to paper, as most artists come across a well known barrier called writers block, QueenPin has faced this challenge multiple times, her solution to this barrier is to leave the space that she is in, whether she'll be in her house or area she's in. The first time I watched T.V man...And in Congo we don't have Dstv" Said the young Congolese artist. He mentioned in the interview that there are specific channels on T.V that would broadcast music videos and this is where he discovered that music is the career he wishes to pursue. Although he and his parents are from two different worlds growing up in a Jehovah's Witness household, his parents weren't convinced that music should be the direction their son should move towards. He also mentions that his father was in love with musical melodies contributing to OG Bank$' passion and drive for music. "My Father is a Christian...I've seen my father love melodies, falling in love with the messages, that's how I learned Lingala, because especially it was most Lingala songs...That's when I started to listen to so many music (songs) like that, and I became part of it as well." </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">He passionately explains that his parents would rather have him follow in their footsteps and continue to lead the life of Christianity. OG BANK$ has yet to show the world what he has in store including the hundreds of unreleased music he has in the vault. There is no doubt that he plans to dominate the music industry many years to come. <p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;">At an early
age Wave Rhyder found his love and passion for music, growing up he was always
expected to follow in his parents footsteps to create gospel music, he initially wanted to become
a pastor as he grew up in a Christian home meaning he had to spend most of his
time in church.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;">Molupe then
decided he wanted to lean towards hip-hop music; he received great love and
support from both his parents for him to pursue his dream to become a hip-hop artist,
even assisting him by paying for studio time to record music. He had a brief
run making hip-hop music, but he then decided to move more towards Afro-pop the
current music he makes today.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;">In 2019 at
the age of 20 years old, Wave Rhyder released a self-produced track titled ‘Ts’ela
bo tlale’, a song that gained him the attention he needed in Lesotho. The song
was inspired by a shebeen that was next to his house, what intrigued him was
the constant comings and goings of people who would walk past his house and
into the shebeen, observing how their personalities would change once they left
the shebeen. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;">Since the
release of his song ‘Ts’ela bo tlale’, the road to success has been promising, collaborating
with big artists such as Juvy, Mj Elphie, and Selimo Thabane and many more, his
greatest achievement would be sharing a stage with Africas award winning duo
Blaq Diamond. Wave Rhyder sets a perfect example that by working hard on your
passion to pursue your dreams can lead to incredible opportunities, whether it
be working with big name artists and reaching heights you’d never imagine. If
Wave Rhyder continues to go down this road there is no doubt that he will be
one of the biggest artists in Africa.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">Our
afternoon presenter Renato, started off the interview by asking more about what
Kenji productions is. Kenan shared with us that the goal was always youth
development by diving deeper into creativeness. Kenan shared that there is so
much talent where he comes from and he describes himself as a people person. He
also mentioned that he is all about giving creatives a platform. He says the
idea for Kenji came from watching trace at home. His initial idea was to start
doing music videos and models and from there it expanded into what it is today.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">He says the
modelling element came from when schools used to throw fashion shows. “CLOTHES
SAYS A LOT ABOUT SOMEONE”, says Kenan. That is the power of fashion and also
how modelling and how the creative element came about.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">Kenan said
that he has two successful shows so far and the upcoming show is inspired and

Ikasi voice is also a very new programme and its based around learner content
that comes out of the training programme. She says that a collaboration is
coming with Youth Capital around social connections and that is something to
keep an eye out for.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt;">The advice she wanted to end off
with was one of two, firstly “The story you have is the super power you have
out there”, she said. She says that there are so many stories out there that
has not been told and it has the potential to heal peoples past. Secondly, She
said that ikasi cannot do what they do without the sponsorship and support from

have shown that approximately 1% of the people worldwide stutter, and there is
still many misconceptions about the speech disorder. During the show Back Chat
on Bush Radio, Stellenbosch researcher Dane Isaacs interviewed to discuss the
social stigma that surrounds the speech disorder.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA">With a speech trait such as stuttering, it
can often be linked to negative social identity. There are many challenges for
people who have the speech trait of stuttering, for instance it becomes linked
with negative social identity. For someone who has developed the speech trait
at an early age are often mocked, either in school or in the workplace. There are
still common misconceptions, which surrounds someone who stutters, many people
still endure discrimination and prejudice because of their speech trait.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA">As Dane Isaacs explains in an interview on
Bush Radio relating to his experience, he explained that during his University
years, he wanted to take up a course to become a Clinical Psychologist, a field
that requires an intense process of doing interviews making oral assignments
for the study to be a big thing. With Dane, even though being a potential
candidate for the course, he unfortunately not accepted because of his stutter.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA">For kids in school who have this speech
trait, it could unfortunately make teachers or students perceive them as an illiterate
individual, reading a loud and presenting orals are often the challenges that
kids in school deal with because of the speech trait. The approach towards stuttering,
according to Dane should not be accepted, but to be accommodated as a way of
speaking. If stuttering will be accommodated rather than accepted it will reach
a breakthrough in society as it should not be seen as a problem that needs to
be fixed.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">Angus Prince
graced us with his presence on the backchat show sharing with us the 20 years
of experience he has had with being a Salsa Dj, businessman<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>and also being on the technology side of
things.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">Angus started
off by saying he does everything that he likes and if you love what you do then
you wouldn’t be working a day in your life. He also shared with us that he runs
a technology business, has a dance studio and production company that
specializes in salsa dancing. He was asked if the things he does ever clashes
with one another and his response was nothing short of thrilling. He said, if
you can make it work than it doesn’t clash and that is why he works for
himself.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">He added
that dance itself is very technical and it balances out by being a science
before an art. He also stated that a lot of the more technical people are
better dancers and that goes hand in hand without them realizing. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">Amoungst
other things Angus has worked with over a few thousand people who still bump
into him on a daily basis still remembering what he has taught them. Being able
to interact with people, he has also been involved in the television and radio
scene as well. More recently has was on expresso with his dance company which
he runs in and around Cape Town. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">Angus also
shares a birthday with the late Albert Einstein, which he found out about at a
very young age, hence his love for the science as well. Being on this
incredible journey this far, Angus’s hope and goals for the future remain
intact and also he looks forward to a number of things from sending his dance
groups oversees to compete in the world salsa championships and also the
children’s dance programme he hopes will grow in the next coming months.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">Backchat was
joined by the vibrant crew of The Leaky Shack Foundation. Leaky Shack was born
out of a humane passion and love for the youth and mankind as a whole. The
founder of the foundation, Requel, mentioned this to us during her time on the
show.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">Straight
away Requel mentioned to us what the foundation focuses on, she said, “I think
it’s important for me to build the kids mentality so they can think better than
their circumstance”. She also shared with us that growing up in a leaky shack
herself she knows how easily your circumstances can influence the way you think
and how you feel about yourself. Highlighting that children go off what they
see and sometimes that is what influences them the most, which gives outside
negativity to be in the light, mainly gangsterism. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">We were also
joined by two young individuals that are part of the lifeskills programme at
The leaky Shack Foundation, Ashlin Nel and Imtiyaaz Arendse. They shared with
us what it’s like being a part of the foundation as youth.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;"><o:p> </o:p></span><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Ashlin shared with us that she has grown so
much because of the programme and also one thing that has really stood out to
her is her confidence that has grown a huge amount. She also added that her
school report has improved and that’s something she is extremely proud of.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;">Imtiyaaz
shared that the programme has taught him lifeskills and it teaches them about
things that school does not. Some of the things that he mentioned that they

2003 Ikamva Youth is a non-profit organisation and one of the leading after
school programs that aims to uplift disadvantaged youth, equipping them with
the necessary skills and resources to escape poverty to become agents of change
within their communities and develop youth skills abling them to become
employable.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;">Back Chat

has on youth development.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

organisation aims to breach the inequality gap that kid’s from disadvantaged
backgrounds face in school. As we know, schools within the townships are not
equipped with computer labs and science labs compared to most schools outside
of the townships and rural areas that have these academic essentials.
IkamvaYouth provides disadvantaged kids exposure to computer and virtual
learning allowing them to obtain the computer literacy skills they need to
progress in their studies.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ansi-language: EN-ZA;">IkamvaYouth
also creates opportunities for volunteers who aspire to become future mentors within
their communities. Volunteers are given the opportunity to speak to the youth
within the organisation, giving them guidiance, advice and also teach them and
tutor them with school subjects, this also gives volunteers relevant experience
to build their CVs to pursue a career in teaching.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">Facebook: IkamvaYouth SA</p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dQBGKLQjoZc" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">Presented by: Thomas Cedrick</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">Producer:Reece Adams</p>backchat@bushradio.co.zahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03720432001924173939noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33216029.post-57813719807069591382022-07-28T16:04:00.003+02:002022-07-28T16:04:52.430+02:00Community Social Angels<p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 20pt; line-height: 107%;">Community Social Angels<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
